Getting off the boat in Bilbao and after a fantastic sea-sick free crossing, we headed south through Spain stopping around 16:30 at a campsite called Desempenoperros, in a town called Bailen. The sites facilities were excellent and there were superb hot showers. We met up with a few off-roaders who had spent three weeks in Morocco and were heading back to England. It is great to be camping again! cooking in the open air, sipping a glass or two of wine and talking safaris with your next-car neighbour.
Leaving Bailen the next day we continue on past Granada and again stop for the night, on the coast at Estapona. Another great campsite, but for 0.50 a hot shower you have to be quick. With my hair full of shampoo and still the rest of me to wash, the hot water went cold, and very cold water was my only solution to finish what I had started. Alan had no problem. But he does have another huge worry in his head. An abscess under the tooth!
So today, now Wednesday, we must find a dentist. Gibraltar isn’t far from here so having sorted the car this morning we get into Gibraltar having waited ages in line to cross - the airport runway, the only way from Spain onto the famous rock. We thought being British, they would understand us better and Alan could explain his pain. We were directed into a huge commercial centre the ICC and inside were GHS (Gibraltar Health Services). The Spanish female dentist was so sympathetic. Took an X-ray, saw an abscess and within half an hour Alan was one tooth less. It didn’t cost us anything! Totally free! So having lost the whole day, as well as a tooth, we picked up a few groceries for our trip and came back to the same campsite “Chullera II”. Tomorrow we will be in Morocco.
